Custom Herring Lures

The Lawrence Lure is handcrafted from a special blend of Tin Bismuth. This metal is environmentally friendly and produces beautiful details. As a blank, it has sharp relief, but after 6-8 layers of nontoxic primer, acrylic paint, and sealer, the image improves and the lure takes on a more realistic appearance.

Lawrence Lures manufactures 2 sizes of lures, both have weight which allow for casting a great distance using braided line or monofilament. This is significant because much of the feeding action on the water is just beyond casting range. A few elements affect distance, including the proper length of rod, line type, braided/ monofilament its diameter/ strength, and the Lawrence Lure you can use to reach those fish.

Custom Herring Lures

The Big Pla Lure weighs in at 54 g/1.7 oz, and has a length of 4″/10 cm. The Big Pla can be used for catching large game fish such as Salmon, Ling-cod, Halibut, Grouper, Wahoo, and Tuna.

The Mid Pla Lure weighs 23 g/0.7 oz and is 3″/7 cm long. This medium sized herring lure is ideal for attracting small to medium saltwater fish like Coho, Pink Salmon, Sockeye, Rainbow trout, Cutthoart trout. In freshwater: Dolly Vardon, Bull trout, Sea Run trout. In the tropics: Sierra, small Tuna, Rockfish, Bluefish, and Snook.

The theory behind the design is that big fish grow big because they can tell the difference between artificial and natural. The observation is that many species will come up to your lure and inspect the colours, EYES its behaviour briefly, then if it satisfies, it triggers their feeding instinct and you have FISH ON!

I’ve led several fishing tours on British Columbia’s west coast and fished in various locations around the world, and my handcrafted lures have performed admirably in a variety of situations ranging from frigid and deep to tropical and shallow.

In the Pacific Coast waters, I’ve caught Salmon, and a variety of Rock Cod, Ling-cod, and Halibut. In the tropics I’ve caught and released Wahoo, Tuna, Sierra, Grouper, Barracuda, and Tarpon. Herring is the most common food source for many types of fish.

On the west coast, one of the techniques for beach anglers is to manoeuvre the lure from deep water to the shallows where the big ones normally patrol. The herring are in the shallows nibbling, and the larger fish patrol that median looking for dinner.

I will accommodate requests for custom colours because each region has that certain shade that works very well depending on the water conditions.
